Emery Elwood
FEMALE | SIXTEEN | HETEROSEXUAL | SECOND YEAR |
PYROKINESIS | REMOTE VIEWING |
POWER DESCRIPTIONS
Emery has two abilities: pyrokinesis and remote viewing.
Her pyrokinesis is an elemental skill that allows her to create and manipulate fire. She is still learning this skill and hasn’t complete control over it, allowing her emotions to sometime control the fire for her. This means that her emotions are a major influence on the fire manipulation – if she feels safe, her fires are controlled; if she feels anxious, her fires reflect this and appear chaotic; and so forth. Her main use of pyrokinesis is the creation of a small fireball that acts as a travel companion, providing her warmth and a feeling of protection by floating around her shoulders.
Remote viewing is her second skill, and one she’s better mastered than the first. This skill allows her to sense the presence of others without the need of sight – similar to a sixth sense. Most times she’s dulled this sense down to mute it in order to avoid overwhelming herself with the sensations of others, which sometimes leads her into trouble and regret that she did it in the first place. She mainly uses her remote viewing at night or when she’s alone, making it difficult for someone to sneak up on her without her knowing of their presence.

APPEARANCE
Emery has a quiet, sophisticated look about her. Most of her expressions give nothing away to how she secretly views the world – rather, instead of her honest opinion, she’s learned to maintain a neutral face to avoid any foreseeable problems from another party. Because of this outlook, she can come across as robotic or harsh to those that don’t know how she works.
As far as physical appearance goes, Emery is the spitting image of her mother. Both have almond-shaped brown eyes and matching reddish-brown hair tied neatly into long pigtails; those pigtails of hers are held together by blue ribbons she received when she was young. The main difference between her mother and her is skin tone: while her mother has a healthy tan, Emery inherited her father’s pale, creamy skin.
As per school rules, Emery is seen with the standard-issued school uniform during regular hours of the day – the school uniform consisting of a button-up shirt, skirt, stockings, matching shoes, and a school-colored bow tied around the neck. Outside school hours, she tends to wear the usual lighter clothing for summer and heavier for winter, always styling her outfits to be well-matched like her mother. When she’s anxious or feeling alone, she has a tendency to create a ball of fire to follow around her shoulder, using this as a source for comfort.

PERSONALITY
If Emery were to be described in three words, it would be careful, intelligent, and a loner.
Careful and cautious of others due to her past experiences, Emery has changed her once-bright and eager personality to a muted version of itself. While she still experiences excitement and eagerness, she hides this from the world with her neutral look in order to avoid causing conflicts between herself and others. She cares about the opinions of her peers, and from this refuses to mess up relationships by complicating them with her own, honest feelings.
Her intelligence comes from her father. While she didn’t personally know the man, she’s heard stories from her mother and has grown up reading books from the closet she often finds herself in. Because of this, she’s never come home with anything other than straight A’s. She considers herself both book smart and decently street smart.
From the former traits listed above, she’s become an unwilling loner. People tend to associate with her as little as possible due to her coming across often times as cold and quiet. Despite this and despite her neutral expressions, she longs for companionship and from this has created a different source for such – a ball of fire she allows to float around her, sometimes going as far as to talk to it for comfort. Overall, she’s a lonely girl who wishes she could have friends, but is too afraid to open up.

BIOGRAPHY
Emery was born into the home of a single mother. When she was young, she would often ask about her father only to receive vague answers in return, only gathering that, like her, her father was a smart individual. As she grew older, she had sneaking suspicions that her father left her mother either for work or another woman, but wisely kept these thoughts to herself.
At a young age, she learned the hard way how to act around her mother: cautious and quiet. If she were to say or act in a way that her mother didn’t agree with, she received her punishment. Her punishment has always been one thing that hasn’t changed from childhood to adolescence – being locked in a closet. From being shut away for the smallest things, she became extremely cautious of what she’d say or do around others in order to avoid conflicts.
Around the age of twelve, she realized how different she was. Despite being locked in a closet all day, Emery could sense her mother’s presence – or anyone nearby, for that matter – without having to actually see her. This became a handy tool for her other ability: the ability to create and manipulate fire. From this, she created a type of ‘security blanket’ by making a ball of fire to hover around her during her lonely days, being sure to let the ball disperse before her mother opened the closet door.
One day, when Emery wasn’t paying attention to her extra sense, her mother caught her with the friendly fireball. Shocked, she threatened to send her away to an institution. Emery panicked, and due to her lack of experience with emotions set the house on fire. Firetrucks were quick to arrive, but it was already too late for her mother. Her mother had burned to death.
Sent to live with her aunt – a lovely woman who didn’t lock her away in closets – Emery remained as her former self: quiet, reserved, and afraid to say or act the wrong way. Her aunt worried for her, but knew there was nothing to be done. A miracle would have to happen in order to change Emery’s ways.
And so, years later, a miracle happened.
A mysterious letter arrived before the start of her second year of high school, addressed to Emery and welcoming her to Aurora Academy. Seeing it was a prestigious school for the extraordinary without knowing the true context of what that implied, her aunt was quick to send her off in hopes that she unlocked her true potential. Here began her chance: her chance at discovering and unlocking who she really is.
